Self service Check-in kiosks for DFDS

Fast, efficient and safe check-in procedure

Every day, thousands of passengers walk through the terminals of DFDS on their way to board the ship. During 2015, sixteen check-in counters were installed in the DFDS terminal in Copenhagen and Olso. Mirum Copenhagen created the flow and UI for them, focusing on the most efficient check-in flow possible, while still complying with the strict regulations of sea-fare.  

Clear results

The success of the check-in counters is surpassing all expectations. The target set by DFDS came off as a soft start to get more than 50% of all MiniCruise passengers to use the kiosks, but from the beginning, the number has been between 75-85%. On the popular days of departure, the large flow of customers in the terminal makes it reach more than 90%.

“We are extremely happy with the results. Our guests are getting through fast and easy and there is hardly any queue,” says Kevin Helsinghof, Country Manager for DFDS in Denmark.

Since the launch in May 2015, more than 50,000 travellers have been through the check-in counters. Due to the success, Mirum is now working on an extension of the flow to include scanning of passports, so that the kiosks can be used in other markets as well.
